Registration & Tickets
How do I register for The Viking Run?
All entries are online through Race Space (our registration partner). Choose your ticket, answer the safety questions, and you’ll get a confirmation email straight away.
What if I need help registering?
If you get stuck during checkout, Race Space have a help centre you can search, and a support chat/message option. If it’s something Viking Run–specific (age rules, waves, event info), contact us and we’ll help.
Do I get a confirmation email?
Yes — you’ll receive a confirmation email from Race Space. If you don’t see it within a few minutes, check your spam/junk folder. Event updates will also come by email, so make sure the address is correct.
Are card payments safe?
Yes. Payments are handled through Race Space’s secure checkout. We never see or store your full card details.
Changes, Refunds & Transfers
Can I get a refund if I can’t take part (or I’m injured)?
Because we order medals, staffing, medical cover and equipment based on entries, we don’t offer refunds.
That said, we’ll do our best to help with changes.
Can I transfer my place to someone else?
In many cases, yes — you can substitute another participant (admin fee may apply). This is managed through your Race Space account (your “My Entries” area).
Important: We stop changes close to event day to keep the start lists and safety checks accurate.
Can I defer my entry to a future event?
At the moment there is no plan to run any future events. One time only.
Ages, Supervision & Safety
What ages can take part?
The Viking Run is for ages 6–16.
Is there a time limit?
No strict time limit — but we do have course closure times for safety and staffing. You’ll get this info in the pre-event email.
Does my child need to be accompanied?
Yes — safety first.
Ages 6–10: must be on-course with a paying responsible adult (18+). At least 1 Adult to 4 children.
Ages 11–16: a responsible adult must be on-site and contactable during the event.
What if my child (or I) cant complete an obstacle?
No Stress - this is a family adventure, not an elimination event. Marshall can guide you to a safer route or let you bypass an obstacle if needed.
Does anyone need to swim?
No. There may be wet/muddy sections, but nothing requires swimming.
On the day
Why do you start in waves?
Waves keep the course flowing and reduce queues at obstacles. Its safer, smoother and more fun.
Can friends/family watch?
Yes of course. More cheering the better.
Can I register on the day?
If we still have capacity, we may allow limited on-the-day entries — but it’s always cheaper and easier to enter in advance, and popular waves can sell out.
Can I bring my dog?
WELL-BEHAVED dogs on leads are welcome in spectator areas (as long as you clean up after them). Dogs are not allowed on the course.
What to wear and bring?
What should I wear?
Wear comfy sports gear you don’t mind getting muddy. Tight-fitting trainers with good grip are best (mud loves stealing shoes!). Layers help — Moray weather can change fast.
What should I bring?
A full change of warm clothes
Towel / wet wipes
Water bottle
Snacks for kids
Bin bag for muddy gear
Card/cash for Cafes and Restaurants in Forres.
Are there changing areas?
No, change like the Vikings did, in the field. Not this year I’m afraid.
Teams, Charity & Volunteers
Can I run for charity?
Absolutely. If you’re fundraising, we’ll cheer you on and can share your story (with your permission). Please let us know and we will post your efforts through our social media channels.
How do I volunteer?
We’ll have volunteer roles across the course and event village. If you want to help, contact us and tell us what you’d like to do (marshal, water station, check-in, Viking character roles etc.).
